コンゴ音楽最高の巨匠フランコの楽団で活躍した、ギタリスト兼バンドリーダー、モーセ・ファンファン。ファンファンは楽団の東アフリカツアー途中で脱退、80年代にヨーロッパに渡って現在はイギリスを拠点に活動を続けている模様。『バイェケリイェ』はイギリスにおけるファンファン楽団による2004年録音。ファンファンが手にしているのは前作『ザ・コンゴ・アコースティック』とはちがってセミ・アコースティック・ギターですが、温かくまろやかなサウンドはそのまま。ホーンズもしっかり入りマロヤカかつ弾力溢れるスウィングを全編で楽しませます。特に、女性歌手をフィーチャーして華やかな歌声を楽しませてくれるところも新鮮。軽やか、爽やかでも味わいはしっかり濃厚。こんな高度に洗練されたコンゴ音楽を演奏できるのはいまではファン・ファンだけかもしれません。
