Rocky Balboa...in which Sly Stallone reclaims his movie making honour after throwing much of his kudos away on horror-shows like Driven and the shameful Get Carter remake. In much the same way, an older, gnarled Rocky Balboa wants one last shot at glory in this fine sequel that repairs most of the damage done to the franchise by the lame Rocky 5. So we have a movie that parallels Sly's own life and this personal approach makes for one of the most interesting movies in the series, with Stallone proving that he can pull off a performance of real pathos when he's got the right character and material. Rocky's struggles with the death of life long lover, Adrienne, his cooling relationship with his son and his desire for one last fight all give the story plenty of meat...and talking of meat, long term fans will be delighted to know that punching sides of beef in an industrial sized freezer makes a welcome return during the fantastic training montage. The final fight is great too, utilizing some up to the minute editing to build the drama. Overall, probably the best Rocky movie with the exception of the original film and a must for Boxing movie fans.

Content Description

30年前に世界ヘビー級王者アポロ・クリードと互角以上の大熱戦を繰り広げて以来、ボクシング界の栄光の階段をのぼりつめたロッキー・バルボア。しかしリングを去った彼は、愛する妻エイドリアンに先立たれ、地元フィラデルフィアで経営するイタリアン・レストランで、客の求めに応じて現役時代の昔話を語って聞かせる日々を送っていた。息子のロバートは有名人である父に引け目を感じて家を飛び出し、彼と顔を合わせようとはしない。エイドリアンの命日に墓参りをしたロッキーは、自らの孤独を痛感せずにいられなかった。
ロッキーは心の喪失感をぬぐうため、再びボクシングを始めることを決意する。彼は今もなお胸の奥底に情熱が燻っていることを感じ、プロ・ボクサーに復帰したものの、大きな野望を抱いているわけではなかった。しかし、ある番組がきっかけで、現役ヘビー級チャンピオン、ディクソンとのエキシビジョン・マッチが企画され、ロッキーは最後の夢に向かって猛トレーニングを始めた。そして、遂に大観衆が詰め掛けたラスベガスのリングに上がっていく……。
