マフィアの幹部だったヘンリーヒルを主人公に繰り広げる実話のギャング伝記映画。「マフィアは、ゴッドファーザーのように、あんなに男気あってかっこよくない！実際は、恐ろしく汚らしいクズで間抜けな部分もたくさんあるんだ！」とマフィアに支配された街で育ったマーティン・スコセッシが自分の経験なども含め本当のマフィア映画を撮ってくれました。 これが本当に面白くスコセッシ作品の中でもTOP3に入るくらいのクオリティだと思います。3時間近くある映画なのに飽きさせず、抜群にセンスのあるBGMの選曲。そしてロバートデニーロがかっこいい。特にSunshine of Your Loveが流れるシーンのデニーロは最高にクール！

異常な状況が日常として描かれる世界｡恐怖が逆に滑稽におかしく思えてくるシーンもあり､リアルを感じさせる｡闇社会サクセスストーリーの代表作のひとつ｡
