Where Jack White and Nicole Kidman meet, the ‘Cold Mountain’ soundtrack is destined to go down in history as one of THE greatest soundtracks ever put together. Assembled by T Bone Burnett – who laced together the music for ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’ – the music that underpins Anthony Minghella’s tale of American Civil War drama is a patchwork of folk-peppered Americana. The ‘Cold Mountain’ album boasts talents as blessed as Gabriel Yared and Alison Krauss alongside traditional musings from the Sacred Harp Singers. However, not only is there a contribution from one of the movie’s key players, Nicole Kidman, the selection also features five tracks from White Stripes blues renaissance man, Jack White. There are three cover versions – Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Sittin’On Top of the World’ and traditional tracks ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ and ‘Great High Mountain’ - and two brand new White tracks, ‘Never Far Way’ and ‘Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over’.
