Product Description

This movingly scripted, brilliantly acted, remarkable true story weaves together the lives of the four men who made Seabiscuit a symbol of hope during the Great Depression era of the 1930's. Charles Howard (Jeff Bridges) an eccentric automobile millionaire, saves Seabiscuit from abuse at the hands of his owners, who have written off the racehorse for being too small. Tom Smith (Chris Cooper), an unorthodox but talented horse trainer recognises the horse's fighting spirit and agrees to take on the challenge of turning the difficult, unruly animal into a champion. The pair put their faith in Red Pollard (Toby Maguire) a half blind, short-tempered young man who, despite being too tall to be jockey, strikes up a bond with Seabiscuit and becomes passionately determined to ride the horse to victory.

1930年代、大恐慌時代のアメリカ---。不幸な少年時代を過ごした騎手、レッド、故郷を追われた孤独な調教師スミスと最愛の息子をなくし、失意の底にあった馬主のハワード。そして見捨てられた馬、シービスケット。心に深い傷を負った３人の男たちとシービスケットの出逢いは、やがて奇跡の物語を生み出すことになる。小柄なシービスケットに全米が熱狂、子どもや女性までも競馬場に駆けつけ、ラジオ中継に釘付けになった。そんな矢先、シービスケットは大事なレースでまさかの逆転負けをしてしまう。『なぜ後ろから来る馬に気づかなかった』と説教するスミスに、レッドは衝撃的な告白をする。生活費を稼ぐためのストリートファイトが原因で、レッドは右目の視力を失っていたのだ。いつしか家族以上に強い絆で結ばれた彼らにさらなる厳しい試練のときが訪れる・・。
