シカゴ出身のキム・セイルとヒロ・ヤマモトが学生時代に、シアトルでクリス・コーネルと意気投合し1984年に結成されたサウンドガーデン。本作はサブ・ポップ・レーベルからの二枚のEP発表を経てSSTと契約した彼らが、1989年に発表した初フル・アルバム。チープな音質や、立体感のない怒涛のギターは、逆に狂気を孕んだグルーヴ、ノイジーなサウンドの陰に光るメロディ・センスといったものを際立たせており、結果的に彼らの音そのものがやるせない時代を映す鏡となっている、という感触。

LPまだ来ないよ〜。バンドのルーツを探るには欠かせない1枚だと思います。深くドロドロうねるリフにはまりましょう。サバスやzepp好きは必聴です。それに4曲目のクリスの熱唱は圧巻！
