『トラヴェルズ』以来、10年ぶりのライブ・...

『トラヴェルズ』以来、10年ぶりのライブ・アルバム、今回はタイトル通りヨーロッパのツアーからのセレクト。 前のライブ・アルバムもそうでしたが、グループの一区切り、総まとめみたいな感じがしています。だって次のアルバムではグループのメンバーが交代し、またそれまでにない打ち込みを導入して、新しい展開になってます。 同じ内容の映像もあって（当時はビデオテープ？）よく見ました。なにせユーチューブでライブ演奏がアップされない時代でしたから。

やはりこれがメセニーの（少なくとも１つの）ピークと言い切ってしまっていいのではないか。 ファンには耳タコの名曲揃い、一聴分かりやすいメロディー、 聴き手を興奮させずにはおかない考え抜かれた複雑な構成、と、 ポピュラリティーとクオリティーがこれほど高い位置で両立している音楽は、 そうは存在しないと思う。終演後の観客の大合唱にも納得の内容。

これと「ファーストサークル」がｍｙメセニーベスト。このアルバムは驚異のライブアクトも凄いが、観客の興奮が更にバンドを鼓舞する様が音から見えてくる。個人的にはシアターイーストのライブアンダーの一番手で登場し、その後のグループを完全に食った時の興奮が蘇ってきて、いつ聴いても元気になれるアルバムです。選曲、演奏、音質もいい。
