In 2009, at the age of 79, jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb—known as the last surviving member of the Miles Davis group that recorded the legendary Kind of Blue—was also enjoying a remarkable late period as a bandleader. Joined by Texas‑born trumpeter and flugelhorn virtuoso Roy Hargrove, guitarist Russell Malone, and bassist John Webber, Cobb recorded Jazz In The Key of Blue for Chesky Records. The album offers masterful interpretations of Great American Songbook standards such as “Every Time We Say Goodbye” and “I Had the Craziest Dream”, while also reimagining pop music through a jazz lens, including the 1979 Motown hit “With You I’m Born Again” by Billy Preston & Syreeta. It also features Cobb’s own original composition, “Remembering U”.
