タジ・マハールのグループに居たというベン・ハーパー。本作は彼の記念すべきデビュー・アルバムで、音楽通のリスナーを中心に注目を集めた一枚（1994年発表）。ワイゼンボーンを弾きながら、影響を受けたというブルースのテイストを感じさせる楽曲を聴かせるが、そのサウンドの感触は極めて都会的とでもいえるようなクールなセンスを見せる。もっと言えばブルースというよりは、トレイシー・チャップマンやレニクラ以降のコンテンポラリーなシンガーソングライターといった趣きがモダンさを感じさせた。
