過去作品と同様に、各メンバーがセッションに楽曲を提供しており、リーダー自身がプログラムの半分を担当。サクソフォン奏者のウリ・ケンペンドルフが2019年の『Not Far From Here』でユリアのトリオに参加したことで、すでにグループのインタープレイに新たな次元がもたらされていたが、この感覚はノルウェーのトランペット奏者ヒルデグン・オイセスの参加によって再び増幅され、5つのカットでトランペットと供給アーティキュレーションのヤギの角笛でカルテットに加わっている。魅惑的なリリシズムと遊び心にあふれたリズムとメロディの相互作用が、『Under The Surface』全体を貫いている。
