ジャズメッセンジャーズ、マイルス・デイビスのグループとモダンジャズのエリートコースを経た頃のウェイン・ショーター。ハードバップとは違う当時の最先端スタイルと言っていいと思うが、かと言って実験的な感じはなく聞きやすいし、カッコイイ！この盤の復刻も悪くないと思う。

Hancockのピアノ、DsはChambersとなかなかキザな編成。 このメンバーでShorterのワン・ホーンが渋く決める。しかも、さらりと。 Jazzのカッコ良さを聴くなら[El Gaucho][Footprints]でキマリだ。タイトル曲をはじめ、ほか全ての収録曲に捨て曲なし。 ボーナストラック[Collector]も聞きどころあり。
