まず驚いたのはサウンドの変化。2000年代仕様にバシッとアップグレードして来ましたね〜。アップからスローまで、どの曲も本当に丁寧に作り込まれていて飽きさせません。 でもこのアルバムの最大の魅力は、なんといってもマイケルの歌じゃないでしょうか。 特に「バタフライ」のようなメロウ・ミディアムでの表現力豊かなパフォーマンスには鳥肌が立ちます。

じわじわと魅力を発見するマイケル生前最後の作品。 スリラーやそれ以前のマイケルの作品を愛聴する人や、マイケルに対して音の面だけ期待する一般の音楽ファンには正直今一つかもしれない。売上げが不調に終わったのは、他でもなく一般受けするクオリティに難点があったからかもしれない。 前半のアップテンポのナンバーは、マイケルのボーカルエネルギーの「失速感」は残念ながら否定できない。 その中でYou Rock My Worldは秀逸。 内省的なバラードも味わいがある。 改めて聴くと、マイケルの生前伝えたかった思いが沢山込められたアルバムではあると思う。

以前から気になっていたものの、廉価盤により初めて購入しました。それまでの彼のサウンドとは全く異なる素晴らしい内容だった事に驚きでした。リアルタイムでこのアルバムを愉しめなかったことが悔やまれる…。
