『Luminessence』シリーズの名前の由来となる、1974年録音のキース・ジャレットがサックス奏者のヤン・ガルバレクとムラデン・グテシャ指揮のシュトゥットガルト管弦楽団のために作曲したというECMならではの傑作。 ■グテシャは、ジャレットの1974年のアルバム『In the Light』収録の「Metamorphosis」でシュトゥットガルトの弦楽合奏団を指揮しており、『Arbour Zena』（1976年）にも指揮者として参加している。 ヤン・ガルバレクの演奏に対するキースの親近感を示している作品でサックスのパートはほぼ即興、キースも演奏には参加していない。彼はヤンの音楽と使う音階を研究し、和声構造のコンセプト、作品の骨組みもヤンを念頭に置いて考えた、というキースとヤンとの信頼と友情が生んだ作品。 〈パーソネル〉Jan Garbarek(ts,ss) Südfunk-Sinfonieorchester conducted by Mladen Gutesha （メーカーインフォメーションより）
