恐らく初期XTCの中では最高傑作。Drums＆Wiresからのねじれたﾎﾟｯﾌﾟ路線がどんどん洗練されていき、本作はその集大成ともいうべき作品。英本国で2枚組で発表されましたが、本邦では1枚でしかも収録曲が大幅にｶｯﾄされての発表でした。今回、ﾌｫｰﾏｯﾄも英ｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙ盤に忠実に模して紙ｼﾞｬｹで再発されてるのがﾌｧﾝにとっては嬉しい。ちなみにﾀｲﾄﾙのsettlementとは英国で誕生した社会奉仕活動のことです。

ﾀﾞﾝﾄﾂで好き＆お勧めなXTC｡前作まで積み重ねてきた手法と､Skylarking以降､より磨かれるﾒﾛ･構成の美が､絶妙に両立した傑作ROCKｱﾙﾊﾞﾑです｡(BigExpressも同様ですが､かなり渋め･Mummerは鬼子ですからね^^;)私に､TheBeatles(WhiteAlbum)､ExileOnMainSt.､KeyOfLife､TheRiver､LondonCalling､SignOfTheTimes…等と共に｢絶頂期二枚組最強論｣を､強く抱かせてくれる事になった一枚です｡ なので､Beatles的に言うとWhiteAlbumと感じてるのは…､私だけかな?^^;【上記作品中でも､Exile…､LondonCallingと共に｢CDは一枚!｣と言うお徳盤でも在ります｡】

迷わず「買い」です。美メロ＆超ポップ＆ヒネクレ度合いがとてもうまいバランスでミックスできている。特に３曲目はその特徴がよく出て完成度が高い。ＸＴＣ聴くならこのアルバムと「ブラックシー」と「オレンジズ＆レモンズ」がベスト３。
