『ジャコ・パストリアスの肖像』は、ジャコのベーシストとしての才能がここぞとばかりに発揮された一枚だと思う。そしてこの『Word Of Mouth』はジャコのアーティストとしての才能が発揮された一枚だと思う。 また、ジャズとかフュージョンとかいったジャンルで捉えない方がいい一枚でもあるかと思う。

以前輸入盤を購入して聴いたことがあるが、あまり良いとは思わなかったので手放してしまった。久し振りに聴いてみたくなり、廉価盤が発売されたのを契機に購入したところ、今回は名盤の良さを十分理解できた。オーディオを買い替えた効果もあるのか、電子音が耳に心地良く響く。

ジャコの、超有名盤。ウェザーリポートで一躍時代の寵児となり、ぶいぶいいわせていた頃のソロワークです。音は、いま聴くと決してバランス良くなかったりするのですが、ダビングにダビングを重ねながら、あれだけの演奏をしてのけるんですから、感覚一発だけのジャズマンには、かなり脅威だったでしょうね。
