2020年夏、9m88は台湾の国家両庁院で開催された夏のジャズミュージックフェスティバルに出演し、コラボレーションしたジャズミュージシャンと自身の1stアルバム『平庸之上 Beyond Mediocrity』から3曲をジャズ風にアレンジ。この時の演奏で"一時的"なユニットが生まれ、本作の誕生を後押ししただけでなくタイトルである『This Temporary Ensemble』の由来にもなった。本作には、ミュージックフェスティバルで演奏されたアレンジだけでなく、未発表のラテン風の新曲「Eyes」も特別収録されており、9m88がニュースクール大学(The New School)で深く培ったジャズ解釈における実力が発揮されている。
