'Writer's Block', Peter Bjorn and John's third album, sounds like their laughing and crying, more like themselves. The sound and expression is so unique, playful and alive. If feels like they have decided to change course and surpass themselves. With the song and first single 'Young Folks' they have created an indie anthem for 2006. It begins with urging and funky drums, maracas, crazy bongos, lo-fi bass, and a whistling melody that sounds like a mix of a wild - west b-movie and the schoolyard. It's a duet with Peter and The Concretes' lead singer Victoria Bergsman about the first nervous and dazed part of a relationship, when you've just met and only want to be with each other at the same time as you’re worried about how much you want to show of yourself and what the other one might think of you.

Elsewhere on the album, Bjorn sings lead on 'Amsterdam', which has a fantastic chorus that recalls Prince in his prime and also on the Spacemen 3- inspired 'Roll The Credits'. John amongst others take the lead on the suggestive 'Start To Melt' one of the many highlights of the album. The lyrics are often brutally honest. All three are songwriters, but they’ve only written one song together.

輸入盤とはっきり区別するためと思われる「Young Folks」のPVもしくは海外で発売されたCDシングルのジャケット同等を用いた日本盤。日本盤にする時に良くありがちな「全バージョン収録」のようになっており、最後の5曲は全て「Young Folks」の別バージョンです。ジャケット（アウター・スリーブですが）はいいのに最後にこれでもかという連発は聴いていて辛かったです。輸入盤対策なのでしょうが、なにもここまでやらずとも…。US盤には別の視点からコンピしたこのアルバむの「2枚組」バージョンもあるようなので、そちらが気になる結果となってしまいました。この日本盤は全15曲、69分40秒なんですが、そんな構成となっております。バンド自体は素朴で嫌みがなく最高。

「Young Folks」が海外ドラマ 「グレイズ・アナトミー」に使われていたのがきっかで知りました。初めは「Young〜」的な 曲を期待していたので、肩透かしをくわされた感じでしたが、聞くたびにはまっていきました。日本でももっと有名になっていいアーティストですね。

フジロック前からずっと気になってたんだけど、実際フジで見てすごく気持ちよかったから買ってみました。やっぱりすごく気持ち良いです！この雰囲気いいですね〜。すごく話題になった３曲目だけじゃないですよ。でも３曲目の雰囲気が好きな方は絶対このアルバムが気に入ると思います。
