John Abercrombie(1944生)は、Timelessを皮切りにECMで数々の傑作をものにしてきた、いわば重鎮とでもいうべきギタリスト。オルガントリオやMark Feldman(violin)を加えたユニークなクァルテットでジャズファンを唸らせてきました。本作品は、自身のライナーノーツによれば、ジャズ界という生きる場所を与えてくれた、マイルスやコルトレーン、そしてエヴァンスら偉大なる先人への捧げもの、とのことです。ため息が出るほど美しい演奏を可能にしたのは、Joe Lovano (ts)、Drew Gress (bass)、Joey Baron (ds) らメンバーのおかげであるとも。確かに、その音群に全身を浸したくなるような、心地よく力強いジャズが展開されています。それは、こちらの焦る気持ちを軽く受け流し、優しく微笑む美しい大人の女性と過ごすひと時のようにも感じられます。
