本職のオルガンではなく、エレピ、シンセを使った、このアルバム。スミスのプロスタートは、ピアニストだったらしく、そつなくこなしています。アルバム・タイトル曲「ギャンブラーズ・ライフ」では、フレーズの繰り返しによって、もったいぶらせ感を高め、サビに入っての開放感は非常に快感。また、スミス作曲の「ディス・イヤーズ・ドリーム」の透明感は素晴らしい。ＣＴＩ傍系レーベルからの作品とはいえ、スカイハイプロダクションズのプロデュースにより、以前のコテコテソウルジャズのスミスからは想像できない、フュージョンサウンドになっ
