ビートルズが解散した年に発表したこのアル...

ビートルズが解散した年に発表したこのアルバムは、３枚組（CDは２枚組）というボリュームにも係わらず全米NO１を記録し、ジョージの不滅の金字塔といわれる大傑作だ。ビートルズ時代は自分の曲が２曲しか入れてもらえず、ストックしていた曲をこのアルバムでいっきに発表した。仮に、ビートルズ時代に個人でこれらの曲（素晴らしい名曲ばかりではあるが）を収めたアルバムを発表しても、ビートルズが存在する以上はここまで注目されなかったと思う。そうした意味で、皮肉なことだが、ビートルズが解散したことがジョージを初めて正当に評価することができるようになった。好きな曲はいくつもあるが、とくにお気に入りはWAH-WAH。中学のとき友人とロードショーで「バングラディシュのコンサート」を見にいったとき、オープニングがこの曲でそれ以来ずっと好きです。若いビートルズファンもビートルズだけでなく、解散後の四人のアルバムもぜひ聞いて欲しいです。とくにジョージのこの名作オール・シングス・マスト・パスはお勧めです。すぐに気に入るでしょう。

発売当時はLP３枚組で6000円。中学生の私に手が出る額ではなく、高校生になってためた小遣いでやや安かった輸入盤を買いました。 カートンボッックス入りで折込のポスターが付いていました。ボリュームたっぷりでよい曲も多く、「ビートルズとして出して欲しかったな」「ジョージ・マーチンにプロデュースして欲しかったな」と思わせる曲もありました。 25年後くらいにLPよりも安くなっている輸入CDを購入。 残念ながら、ジョージはこの作品を超えるものはその後作れなかったと思います。最初にして最後の大傑作です。
