ソウル・ファンにとって、忘れがたき歌い手でしょう。 『USブラック・ディスク・ガイド』のレア盤コーナー「究極のLPコレクション＜ソロ編＞」に紹介された、77年に発表した唯一のアルバムでチープなジャケも素晴らしい『Understand Each Other』（日本に数枚しか存在しないと言われた鬼レア盤で後に再発された）で知られるオハイオはクリーブランドのグレイト・モダン・シンガーであり、ソングライター/ギタリスト/プロデューサー/エンジニアとしても活躍したルー・ラグラン。
ノーザンソウル・ファンに人気の「I Travel Alone」や、ドラマティックな名曲「Understand Each Other」や抜けるような青空を思わせる爽快ナンバー「Since You Said You'd Be Mine」等、 そのおおらかな歌唱は時を超えてソウル・ファンに愛され続けている彼の黄金期とも言える70年代の作品を中心にした音源集を、あのマニアック過ぎる仕事で知られる米NUMEROからリリース！
今回リリースされる『I Travel Alone』は、1967年から1978年に残した、自身のソロ作品はもちろんのこと、メンバーでもありプロデューサーとしても活躍したホット・チョコレート、ヴォルカニック・イラプション等の楽曲をまとめあげたもの。収録曲には1975年のワイルドファイアー名義の「Tend To You Business」や、1973年のAgora Ballroomでの未発表ライブ音源も収録。 このボリュームたっぷりの3枚組を聴きながら、ルー・ラグランが歩んできた長い音楽の旅路に想いを馳せてみてはいかがでしょう。
