Ormandy’s 1970s recordings of Kodaly’s HARY JANOS Suite, Prokofiev’s LIEUTENANT KIJE, and Stravinsky’s FIREBIRD all benefit from excellent stereo sound and acoustics, but I find Ormandy’s Columbia (Sony) recordings of these works preferable. HARY JANOS is just too slow in parts, and the sound is rather muddy in places. KIJE is better, and on the same high level as Ormandy’s early 1960s Columbia recording. FIREBIRD is very fine, and a great recording in all respects. There is a slight hum0 people agree with this review
