Ormandy’s 1970s recordings of Kodaly’s HARY JANOS Suite, Prokofiev’s LIEUTENANT KIJE, and Stravinsky’s FIREBIRD all benefit from excellent stereo sound and acoustics, but I find Ormandy’s Columbia (Sony) recordings of these works preferable. HARY JANOS is just too slow in parts, and the sound is rather muddy in places. KIJE is better, and on the same high level as Ormandy’s early 1960s Columbia recording. FIREBIRD is very fine, and a great recording in all respects. There is a slight hum

３０年近く前の中学生時代。初めて買ったクラシックのレコードが、忘れもしないこの「火の鳥」だった（勿論LP。「牧神」「ダフニスとクロエ」とのカップリングだった）。曲と演奏の素晴らしさに夢中になり、クラシックにハマるきっかけを作ってくれた１枚。CD化されて久しぶりに聴いたが、やっぱり有無を言わせぬ素晴らしさだ。他２曲も名演。このコンビの代表盤と言っても過言でないと思う。
