マルティノン/CSOの再評価が進んでいますが、極め付きがこれ。緻密で精妙で、さらに色彩爆発。最高傑作は「スペイン狂詩曲」。オーケストラが巧い巧い。これほどのラヴェルはほかで聞けないと思います。このコンビにはずれなし。

パリ管との血の騒ぐ演奏とは全く違う、ガラス細工のように繊細なラヴェルです。シカゴ響はやはり手練れ揃いなんだなあ、と感服した次第。guinnessさんの仰るとおりで、マルティノンが早々に離任してしまったのが残念。このコンビでもっといろいろな作品を聴いてみたかった。

CSOと残した演奏の「最高のラベル」。ただボレロが無いのが痛恨の極みです。CSOももっと彼に付いていって欲しかったな〜聴衆受けが悪かったのだろうか？

This is one of the great Ravel recordings. The ”Daphnis” was taped at Martinon’s 1st CSO recording session (along with the Roussel ”Bacchus” Suite no. 2) and has gorgeous, pre-renovation Orchestra Hall sound. The remainder was recorded at much later sessions, c. 1968, in Medinah Temple, and now sound better than ever. All of the performances are amoung the finest ever recorded, but the prize is Martinon’s incredibly tender and sensitive rendering of ”Mother Goose.”
