The Talich are always subtle and probing interpreters. Their exceptional recorded sound perfectly locates each instrument for the ear; this is chamber music, not the semi orchestral sounds some versions prefer. The Op. 18 are outstanding and all the other quartets contain memorable moments. The only disappointments come in a lack of heft in the middle period quartets when compared to the Vegh or Berg versions. The sheer wildness of imagination is overly tamed in the late quartets.

もし、安くて演奏内容が良くて、センスと品のある音楽が好きで、ベートーヴェンの弦四をこれから聴いてみようか、と思う人にお薦めします。迫力を求める人にはＡＢＱを薦めます。どちらも入門用として最適の内容です。ただ、この全集、一つ問題があります。「大フーガ」です。「大フーガ」は内声がバリバリに弾けなければ物足りません。それ以外の曲は、最近の、技術だけの、音楽が迷走している若手（第４世代）より遥かにベートーヴェンの高さを伝えてくれます。バラで探している人にはまず１５、１６を薦めます。
