ムスバッハ演出・カンブルラン指揮のプロダクションを国内盤化してほしいが（Region 1・NTSC盤はHMVでも買えるので視聴可能な方はどうぞ）この古い映画版も悪くない。ベルクの台本にほとんど忠実に実写映画化したもので古さは感じるが、音楽の表現内容とこれほどぴったり合った映像も珍しい。別録り音源と注意深く重ねられている。演奏もマデルナらしくきりっと引き締めて聴かせるが、当時の技術限界ゆえ歌唱はややアバウト、レンジの狭いモノラル音質もあり独創的な音楽語法は聴き取りにくい。飽くまで「オペラ」としての同作品を知りたい人向き。

TNさんのレビューに激しく同意。1920年代っていう時代は、二つの戦争の狭間の時代だけれども、文化的には何と実り多い時代だったかと驚嘆するばかり。「ヴォツェック」初演の数年後にフリッツ・ラングの「メトロポリス」が上映されてたこの時代ってのは不思議です。

Anyone who loves WOZZECK should buy this incredible film immediately. It is so vastly superior than the Abbado. The characterizations are so ”real” not the exaggerated caricatures they often seem to be. Jurinac’s Marie and Unger’s Captain are probably the most welcome in this respect. Maderna’s conducting displays his usual complete grasp of this music. You may want to look into his two act LULU issued in Opera del Oro. Easily, the best conducted LULU ever!! Better than Bohm, Ludwig, Tate, ...e
