Ivan Lins called Helio Celso ”Brazil’s Bill Evans.” This is an exceptional early CD by this terrific Brazilian jazz pianist. Helio Celso helped Lisa Ono start her Brazilian band in Japan in the late 1980s, and that band became a sensation in Japan in the 1990s. This quiet and elegant CD was recording in 1991, and contains Helio’s versions of many classic Brazilian songs. Song #10 ”Agua do Moinho” was written by Lisa Ono. If you like quiet, elegant jazz, this CD is not to be missed.
