ショルンスハイムの全集でハイドンの鍵盤曲を知ったのだが、あちらは曲によって楽器を変えて、学問的には正しいのかもしれないが、全体の統一感が希薄になってしまった。厖大な曲数があるので、全体を俯瞰して聴きたい場合は、このブラウティハムの全集の方が聴きやすい。ハイドン自体があまりに多作で、曲の違いを感じ取りにくいのだが、少なくともよく取り上げられる後期のソナタについては、明解な演奏で、大変楽しめた。フォルテピアノでハイドンを聴きたいという場合には、第一選択にしたいセットである。

以前は明確な根拠もなくハイドンの曲に良くない先入観を持っていました。しかし、今は違います。このＣＤも優しくチャーミングな音楽で、夜に本を読むときなどとても良いです。

It’s good to have all of this music in one set and Brautigam has fleet fingers which deliver bright, harpsichord-like performances of consistent high proficiency. This however, is what makes the project rather dull in the end. The wealth of tonal possibilities of the fortepiano are never fully exploited and the player only seems to ’connect’ with a handful of the later pieces. Too much of this is generic sounding. McCabe is still preferable along with individual sonatas with Brendel and Badura-Skoda.
