このアルバムではブラームスの有名なイ長調間奏曲を挙げたい。そっと慈しむような愛情に満ちた演奏。それは押し付けるようなものではなく、じんわりと感動を呼ぶ。家族、流刑からの生還、弟子に対する温かい眼差し。ネイガウスの人柄を偲ばせる音楽である。涙無くしては聴けない演奏。バッハはロマン派的解釈だが、同様に温かく穏やかな愛情に満ちた演奏。ただし、バッハに限って言えばテンポが揺れ動くのと不自由な手を使っての演奏のためか、ネイガウスとしては惜しい演奏。

On my point of view, the best rendering of Bach’s 6 Preludes and fugues (F sharp major to g sharp minor) from Well Tempered Clavier 1, after Fischer’s and Neuhaus own pupil Richter. But, from a certain point of view, these are greater than their because they are deeply felt, sincere and moving in their simplicity, played as only a person who has understood life’s laws can do. One of Neuhaus incredible and undervalued miracles.
