The self-styled ’One man punk revival’, Billy Bragg was a breath of fresh air at a time when pop was so airbrushed it was on the verge of ending up as forgettable as a 70s van mural. With this, his first full-length LP, Bragg began to consolidate an audience built largely on word of mouth, and a little help from John Peel. His powerful solo delivery, with social commentary and protest overtones, makes this still a refreshing listen, even if his targets of wrath--Reagan and Thatcher--are long gone.0 people agree with this review
