A long‑awaited reissue of qimygo’s first 7‑inch single “Amenohi (c/w Marble)”, originally released in 2015, returns eleven years later. Now an indispensable presence in the Japanese reggae scene, female singer‑songwriter qimygo makes a welcome comeback with this special reissue.
The A-side, “Amenohi”, is an original song heavily influenced by late‑1960s Jamaican music. A sweet and bittersweet rocksteady tune, it remains a favorite in club settings and live performances even more than a decade after its original release. The B-side, “Marble”, is a lovers rock track featuring a pleasant, rolling rhythm inspired by UK reggae pioneers such as Dennis Bovell and the iconic ARIWA Sounds label led by Mad Professor, paired with qimygo’s clear and expressive vocals.
This reissue includes a new dub mix by Jagabe (Reggaelation IndependAnce, Soul Dimension). While preserving the freshness of the original, the track is infused with floating delays and reverbs, creating a spacious and immersive dub atmosphere that gently envelops the entire song.
Participating musicians include leading figures from the Japanese reggae scene: Koji Oishi (LITTLE TEMPO) on drums, Masamichi “MAH” Aoyagi (GREEN MASSIVE) on bass, Takao Suzuki (FRISCO) on guitar, with keyboards performed by qimygo herself. The horn section brings together top‑tier players from Japan’s ska and reggae communities: 723 (trombone / J.J Session), mol (soprano sax & flute / The SKAMOTTS), and Inatch (tenor sax / Yant Izez).
Blending rough yet tough rhythms with colorful, sophisticated horn arrangements and crystal‑clear vocals, this double‑sider 7‑inch captures the deep groove that only a live band can deliver.
The sleeve and center labels are designed by COM, who also handled the artwork for the original 2015 release. Using a heavy cardboard sleeve as a canvas, this newly illustrated design visually reflects the lyrics and enhances the overall listening experience, allowing fans to enjoy both the music and the artwork.
The original 2015 pressing sold out immediately and has since become difficult to obtain. This reissue is also limited, so early reservation is highly recommended.
