Product Description

Against the backdrop of the disco music boom of the era, Spinach Power was a disco-rock band that released seven singles and three albums between 1978 and 1981. They made their debut in September 1978 with the single “POPEYE THE SAILORMAN”. The band’s name is believed to have been inspired by the “power of spinach” that Popeye consumes to power up.
The lineup was fluid throughout their career, and their musical style varied widely. However, the band produced several musicians who would go on to leave a significant mark on the Japanese music scene, including Tetsuro Oda (Vo.), Syuichi Teranishi (Vo.), Mamoru Kimura (Dr.), and Shingo Haruyama (B).
The album being reissued, “IN and OUT”, was originally released in September 1980 as their third album. The personnel included Syuichi Teranishi (Vo.), Tetsuya Nomura (LG, Cho), Shion Morishita (Aco G, Cho), Susumu Nakaji (SG, Cho), Shingo Haruyama (B), and Mamoru Kimura (Dr.). The original catalog number was K28A-16, and it was released under the BILLBOX sub-label of Seven Seas Records, a Western music imprint of King Records.
The album features tracks such as the lead single A-2 “Hot Summer Rain” (lyrics: Daimon Natsuki, music: Tetsuya Nomura), A-1 “Movie Theater” (lyrics: Daimon Natsuki, music: Daiko Nagato), A-5 “Style” (lyrics: Tomoko Aran, music: Tetsuro Oda), and B-2 “TELEPHONE” (lyrics: Daimon Natsuki, music: Daiko Nagato / Tetsuya Nomura). While the early disco-rock sound had faded, the album showcases a style that heralded the dawn of Japanese rock, which would dominate the 1980s.
