Two classic albums by Fumio Itabashi and Seiichi Nakamura are being reissued by PROJECT Re:VINYL!

A surge of emotion like waves of the ocean, a vitality that seems to pierce the sky why is Fumio Itabashi so beloved worldwide? The answer lies within this album.
This is the masterpiece third album recorded in 1979 by the world renowned pianist Fumio Itabashi. At the time, he was leading his own group while also performing with ensembles led by Takeo Moriyama and Terumasa Hino, and that creative peak is captured here in breathtaking form. His powerful touch brings forth melodies overflowing with emotion sometimes like raindrops, sometimes like a raging storm shaking both the ears and hearts of listeners.
From the swinging ascent of “When You Smile” to the explosive drive of “Up Into The Sky” and the exotic, grand scale “Macumba”, the album brims with Itabashi’s individuality and brilliance. The superb support from Yoshio Otomo, Hiroshi Hatsuyama, and Ryojiro Furusawa adds further depth. It’s not just about “Watarase” or “Good-Bye”. Why is Itabashi loved across the globe? This album holds the answer. text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)

This album represents one of Seiichi Nakamura’s ideals a vision where the saxophone soars freely like a bird, liberating the listener and guiding them into a new world.
During his time with the Yosuke Yamashita Trio, Nakamura poured his entire being into every note, weaving flashes of inspiration and raw impulses into powerful blows in the early 1970s. With this work, he undergoes yet another transformation. As Nakamura himself described: “Sharing space with everyone, feeling as if we’re flying freely like birds that’s the ideal.” Here, layers of sound and moments of silence expand the sonic space, and within it, Nakamura’s saxophone runs vibrantly and unrestrained. Highlights include the exhilarating “Wolf’s Theme”, inspired by Kazumasa Hirai’s Wolf Guy series; the nostalgic melodies and relaxed groove of “Harappa”; elegant, richly textured interpretations of standards like “Body & Soul” and “I Can’t Get Started”; and the dynamic, liberating energy of “Viva Giappone”. In every track, Nakamura’s ideal is vividly realized. Featuring contributions from Toshiyuki Daitoku, Aki Takase, and Ryojiro Furusawa.
