【イントロダクション】
第二の人生を大自然に包まれた美しい土地で過ごそうと、北海道に移り住むことにした夫婦、篤史（佐藤浩市）と良子（樋口可南子）は、 かつて外国人が住んでいた家で暮らし始める。良子は篤史に家を囲む石塀作りを頼んだが、以前から患っていた心臓の病を悪化させて、この世を去ってしまう。悲しみにくれる篤史のもとに、ある日、良子から手紙が届いた。驚く篤史。そして、次々と見つかる手紙に導かれるように、篤史は周囲の人々の人生に関わっていく。また、長年疎遠になっていた娘、聡子（北川景子）と再会し・・・。
