フランスの名門サラヴァ・レーベルに残された、
優雅で気品溢れる輝きを集めたコンピレイション。

「Quiet Corner」 はHMVが季刊で発行しているフリーペーパーです。ジャズ / ブラジル / アルゼンチン / SSW / ソフトロック / アンビエントなど、幅広いテイストから心を鎮めてくれる音楽を紹介し、国や年代を超えてゆるやかに音楽地図を描きます。今回、フランスの名門サラヴァ・レーベルの楽曲の中から 「Quiet Corner」 というフィルターを通して選曲を行いました。サラヴァはフランスのミュージシャンで俳優でもあるピエール・バルーが、1960年代に映画「男と女」の製作資金を作るために設立した音楽レーベルです。現在も多くの音楽家に影響を与え続けているサラヴァの魅力は、その幅広い音楽性と独特の美意識にあります。フレンチ・ミュージックとブラジル / アフリカ / ジャズ / フォークの素敵な出会いによって生まれた素晴らしい作品たちは、ピエール・バルーの自由な感性そのものと言えます。

このコンピレイションのテーマは “優しく親密に響く音色” です。
全体的に温もりのある質感をイメージして一枚にまとめました。ピエール・バルーによるサウダージ溢れるボサノヴァの名曲の数々。クレール・エルジエールやヴィルジニー・スゲールが歌う甘くロマンティックなシャンソン。リリカルで抑制の効いたトーンを奏でるジョルジ・アルヴァニタやジャン=ピエール・マスのピアノ・トリオ。優雅でラウンジーな雰囲気を醸し出すモニック＆ルイ・アルドゥベール、フランシス・レイ、マルティーヌ・ビュジョルドはどれも貴重な初CD化音源。子守唄のようにドリーミーな気分に浸れるドミニク・バルーの歌声と、テリー・キャリアーを彷彿させるチック・ストリートマンの柔らかなフォーキー・グルーヴなど、美しい輝きをもった全20曲を収録。 「サラヴァ」 とは 「あなたに祝福あれ」 という意味です。ビーアがしっとりと歌うビートルズのメランコリックなカヴァーに耳をすませ、 「Saravah for Quiet Corner」 を聴き終えた時、みなさんの心に安らかな余韻が流れますように。



ピエール・バルー主宰、フランスで最も自由で歴史あるインディ・レーベル “サラヴァ”。

"SARAVAH" とはポルトガル語で、 "あなたに神の祝福がありますように" の意。
"IL Y A DES ANNEES OU L ’ON A ENVIE DE NE RIEN FAIRE" とは
"何もせずに過ごす時間を望むこともある" というサルバドール・ダリの言葉。
"LES ROIS DU SLOW-BIZZ" とは "スロウ・ビジネスの王様" の意。

サラヴァは、ピエール・バルーが自らも出演したクロード・ルルーシュ監督映画 『男と女』 での成功 (フランシス・レイと共に作った有名なテーマ曲) で得た資金を惜しげもなく使い1965年に設立された。国籍やジャンル、有名無名を問わず才能のあるアーティストを受け入れた初めてのレ−ベルだ。
「男と女」 のテーマ曲もそうだが、フランスに初めてボサノヴァを紹介したことも特筆される。ピエールはボサノヴァ黎明期よりブラジルに渡り続け、多くのュージシャンと交流を深めた。ピシンギーニャ、ヴィニシウス・ヂ・モラエス、エリス・レジーナetc。特に盟友ともいえるバーデン・パウエルらと作った 「サンバ・サラヴァ」 は映画でも使われ、サラヴァのカラーを決定付けている。
流行に追随することよりも、音楽そのものが持つエクスプレッションやエモ−ションを最優先にしており、このすさまじい消費社会の中で、今なおその姿勢を保ち続けている。これはレ−ベル主宰者であり、音楽家、詩人、映像作家、そして何よりも自由人であるピエ−ル・バル−の個性そのものを体現している。このフィロソフィーに共鳴して、多くのア−ティストたちが国境を越えてサラヴァに辿りつき巣立っている。
