Product Description

Newcomers Winter Count release their first album, Glen Atty, in November 2012. Jeff Mihok, a New York City high school teacher, writes, produces, and engineers the songs with the help of long-time collaborator Steve Kelly. The two friends have been playing music together since their college days at Oberlin. Winter Count's songs feature evocative lyrics, layered guitars, textural keyboards, and an often rolling backbeat. The songs are about nature, relationships, and the passing of time. A multi-instrumentalist, Jeff recorded the album on his iMac in a variety of places. Steve played bass and guitar on many songs and provided production and arrangement support. Jeff has been writing and recording songs for years, yet only sharing them with his closest friends and family. Over the past few years, he has refined the sound that defines Winter Count and is looking forward to sharing his music with a larger audience. Glen Atty takes it's name from a friend's farmhouse in upstate New York where many of the songs were finished and mixed by Jeff during a solitary winter stay. Some influences include: the Beatles, the Smiths, M. Ward, Sufjan Stevens, Cat Power, the Shins, Nick Drake, My Bloody Valentine, the Velvet Underground, Bon Iver, and many others.
