Ribbon Chaser

Ribbon Chaser, the new record from Vespolina marks a strong second offering after a tumultuous year of line-up changes and record label shakedowns following the release of their eponymous first album. Reinvigorated and featuring a new rhythm section, the band set to work in earnest during the winter of 2012 on the tracks which would become Ribbon Chaser--a deliberate step away from the band's previous country/songwriter influences toward a more edgy, but ever melodic, post-pop-rock sound. The final result is a more cohesive, emotive band showcasing not just a singular member or highlighting just one instrument. Vespolina coheres, giving the songs an organic, variegated texture; they let the songs breathe. Lyrical and emotive, deliberate, but with a hint of whimsy, the songs themselves interrogate and enrich each other thematically, forming a continuous whole from the lead track 'Because' to the closing anthem 'The Explanation'; 'The Wrong Way' and 'Direction' engage one another as 'Woven' looks to 'Unwound' for resolution. There are traces of the past too: 'Dark Heart Lucky Hand' harkens back to Daniel Aaron's first record under the Timber moniker. Throwing Sparks', provides a light contrast to the album's darker hues. It's a jovial little number. Ribbon Chaser was recorded in the group's Alysseum Studio in Athens, Georgia, mixed by Matt Tamisin at Japanski Studio, and mastered by Joel Hatstat Audio. Listen for the results in late night bars, police reports and at cocktail parties. Ribbon Chaser makes good on it's promises and marks the first release from Lil' Luck Records.
