Product Description

The Quartet's unique sound has been praised, (Michael Tucker - Jazz Journal International), for the lucid sense of tone and colour of Donovan's piano and the full but unforced beauty of Hadley's also sax.

The composer, Anthony Donovan, studied with the classical pianist John Ogdon in the 80's, and is much influence by the songs of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison,Steely Dan, through to the jazz of Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans. Julia Doyle (Double-Bass, toured with folk-rock artist Brian Kennedy; Paul Dufour (Drums & Percussion) was the original drummer for the Libertines; Marc Hadley (Alto Saxophone), studied under John Harle, Don Rendell and Jean Toussaint of the Jazz messengers. Donovan's music is ' often redolent of the creamier moments of Keith Jarrett's Quartet classics of the late-1970s such as 'Belonging' and 'My Song'. The Quartet's second CD Something For A Star combines gritty Urban Blues with currents of pastoral calm; Be-Bop, with lyrical songs without words: Light and shade, constantly shifting, yet always edging towards resolution and something beautiful.
