ポップ・シーンやロック・サイドを巻き込む動きはセカンド・アルバム「Second Toughest In The Infants」（96年、邦題「2番目のタフガキ」）でさらに強化された。カールのヴォーカルを強く全面に押し出し、なおかつクラブ・ミュージックとしてのバランスを損なわないサウンド作りを実現したものである。またこのアルバムに先駆けてリリースされたシングル「Born Slippy」（96年）は映画「トレインスポッティング」に使われ、まさしく世界的な大ヒットを記録した。名実共にUKクラブ・シーンの頂点を極めたアンダーワールドは、アメリカのレーベルWaxTrax!とも契約を結び、世界的なマーケットへと進出しはじめたのである。
