2004年に発売され、全世界で900万枚以上を売り上げた前作『原子爆弾解体新書〜ハウ・トゥ・ディスマントル・アン・アトミック・ボム』から約4年半、遂に通算12作目となるU2のスタジオ・アルバムが完成しました！

今作は、当初Rick Rubinのプロデュースで制作が開始されていたようですが、それらの楽曲はすべてお蔵入りとし、制作には新たにBrian EnoとDaniel Lanoisが携わり、またSteve Lillywhiteも参加する形で作業は進められた模様です。
レコーディングは昨年、モロッコのフェズから始まり、その後ダブリンのバンドのスタジオ〜NYのプラチナム・サウンド・レコーディングスタジオと場所を移し、最終的にはロンドンのオリンピック・スタジオで完成されたそうです。
来年1月には待望の新曲音源が解禁予定となっており、ボノは

「今までの楽曲とは全く違うサウンドだし、今世の中に出ている楽曲とも全く違うサウンドだよ」

とコメントしているそう！早くも09年のベスト・アルバムの登場となりそうです！お楽しみ！！
