Product Description

Our destination on this album was a wonderful recording studio tucked into a mountain with vast sky and jagged peaks as a view. Andy Simpkins' journey there was a circuitous one. He is the classic well-travelled bassist with whom I shared the bandstand and the bus as we zigzagged the country with the Shearing Quintet. Jack Wilkins arrived via our association in New York, where jazz clubs are regularly graced by his accomplished presence. Ted Moore and I first crossed paths at the Eastman School. He then detoured to the Rio Symphony and to the world music of Paul Winter before joining us at this session. Co-producing was skillful Bob Edwards, who was destined to keep us all laughing. The music reflects travel destinations - ranging from the ghost town 'Ashcroft' to New York's Columbus Avenue - as well as a few meanderings enroute. T.P. 'A very fresh approach to music. All I can say is sit back, listen, and enjoy! - GEORGE SHEARING 'Ted Piltzecker is an 'Original' - one of my favorite composers' - CHUCK MANGIONE 'Piltzecker's an accomplished vibe player with a bit of Latin music in his heart.' CASHBOX 'Vibraphonist, equally adept at ballads and up-tempo vehicles.' BILLBOARD 'Strong, clean playing performed with control and a sense of commitment, thoughtfully constructed compositions and arrangements, and high quality production, make this a very enjoyable album which should not be passed up.' PERCUSSIVE NOTES.
