Produced by Youth, perhaps the last producer anyone would have predicted for an SCI project, UNTYING THE NOTshows an unprecedented expansion of the band's already board vision and a major change in recording and performance philosophy. MOre so than on any previsou SCI album, the range of musical styles kept broadening as the recording process went on. in echoes of it's bluegrass past and premonitions of a more experiemental future, over pounding dance-club beats and in filmy, abstract overlays of spoken word and elecrtonic effects, SCI put together it's most mature and provocative album yet.
