Live Concert from the Heldenplatz Vienna, 1999. Spanish tenor Jos Carreras and the Hungarian soprano Andrea Rost, longtime favourites with Vienna opera fans, were both invited to sing arias and duets at the JOHANN STRAUSS GALA under the baton of open-air veteran Zubin Mehta. Inspired by the enthusiasm of the crowd, Mehta was moved to play the Radetzky March as an encore the traditional closing piece at every Strauss concert.

野外とあって、楽友協会大ホールとは異なる、エコーの利いたサウンドと夕暮れから宵にかけての景色が楽しめる。ベルリン・フィルとの’９７年ワルトビューネでは、タクトをもてあそんで落としてしまう前代未聞のハプニングというか粋な演出で盛り上げたメ−タ。ここでも楽しげに振っている様子がうかがえる。偉大なるイヴェント指揮者などと称されることもあるが、それは褒め言葉・賞賛として受け入れたい。何と言っても、ウィーン・フィルとは気心の知れた同僚、楽友なのだから。

珍しい曲もあり楽しめます。 オーストリアのKOCHレーベルからでていたCDと比べるとかなり音質もいいです。アンドレア・ロストとホセ・カレーラスの「ウィーン気質」〜二重唱が本当にとろけるような 甘さを感じます。
