スティーヴ・ウィンウッドは1960年代にSpencer Davis Groupのヴォーカリストとしてデビュー。その後Chris Wood、Dave MasonとのTraffic、Eric ClaptonとのBlind Faithでヴォーカリストを務め、1977年に『Steve Winwood』でソロ・デビュー。その白人離れしたソウルフルなヴォーカルは常に英国を代表する存在として評価され、Rolling Stone誌が選んだ「歴史上最も偉大な100人のシンガー」に於いて第33位にランク・インしている。
本作は「While You See a Chance」の大ヒットを生み出した1980年の2ndアルバムの2CD仕様デラックス・エディション。ボーナス収録のDISC2にはアルバム収録曲の別ヴァージョンと、英BBC Radio 2で放送されたドキュメンタリー番組『Arc Of A Diver, The Steve Winwood Story』を収録。

ファンとしては当然Disc2の収録内容に期待...

ファンとしては当然Disc2の収録内容に期待するわけですが…収録リストを見る限り、期待を上回るものではなかったというのが正直なところ。殆どを自宅のスタジオに籠って仕上げた作品なので、制作過程の別ヴァージョン音源も当然存在していたと思われるのに…それらはWinwood自身が今回発表を望まなかったのかもしれない。それにしてもSingleとして既発であってアルバム未収録の音源（Single EditやRemix）はもう少し纏めて欲しかった。いずれにしても、最近のユニバーサル系Deluxe Editionは「貴重な発掘音源ありき」というスタンスからどんどんズレていってるような気がする。

Disc2の内容には殆ど魅力を感じない。リマスターのサウンドが欲しければこれまで紙ジャケ盤でいい音のやつがあるし、今回はスルーかな？
