Steve Power's voice and songwriting have been likened to artists from Joe Ely to Tom Waits, Raul Malo and even a touch of Led Zeppelin. His current collection, The Austin Chronicles, brings together some of the best known and most respected musicians in Austin such as Carolyn Wonderland, Warren Hood, Ponty Bone, Casper Rawls, David Miller (Asleep at the Wheel), and the legendary Earl Poole Ball (Johnny Cash, The Byrds, Graham Parsons...). The core band features Pete 'The Beat' Langhans (The Mother Truckers), Jeff Hays (Johnny Land, Bernard Allison), Ron D'Argenio (Mirand Lambert) and Phil Hurley (Jimmy Lafave). The assembled songs reflect Steve's nearly 10 years in Austin, having previously spent decades living and performing in the UK and Europe. An eclectic blend of material that runs from the Austincentric story with a Little Feat feel of 'Paved in Gold' to the charmingly creepy 'The Stalker', the down in the alley pure blues 'Hurtville' - with stunning backing vocals by the fabulous Ms. Wonderland - and a nod to Sergio Leone with 'Feeling Like This'. And of course as always with Steve, there's some face melting rockers. Included are four bonus tracks, three songs from the critically acclaimed EP, 'Nothin' On the Radio' and the last known recording of the larger than life itself, Jesse 'Guitar' Taylor. As Steve says, 'This album is Austin to the bone. They just let me put my name on it.'
