ドゥービーブラザーズ、リトルフィート等と共に後にウェストコーストロックの一翼を担うバンドなのですが、私は、どうしても西ではなく東のニューヨークを感じてしまいます。それ程このファーストから都会的な雰囲気を醸し出していると思うのですが.....?バンド名、ジャケットそしてアルバムタイトルからして意味深ですね！何はともあれ名盤です。

Steely Danの’72作の1st。米の軽快で都会的なﾊﾞﾗｴﾃｨｰに富んだ楽曲群を楽しめる一枚。何人もｳﾞｫｰｶﾙとってるが、ﾄﾞﾅﾙﾄﾞがひとたび声を発すると、みんなの知ってるSteely Danになるから、やはり彼の声質は重要なﾜﾝﾋﾟｰｽだと分かります。ﾄﾞﾅﾙﾄﾞとｳｫﾙﾀｰがこの先何枚も傑作を作るであろう予感を充分感じさせてくれるｾﾝｽが抜群。ﾗﾃﾝ･ﾘｽﾞﾑを使ったM1は誰もが知ってる名作。

This is the best sounding edition of this classic album I have heard. Very ’organic’ sounding, extremely lifelike, but not in a ’hifi’ way. Very hard to listen to just as background music, you keep getting drawn actively into the listening experience and marvelling at the performance and production touches. Are the rest of the series as good as this-watch this space.
