日本では「オバカコメディ」として流行のオバカブームに便乗する形で押しまくっていたが、ふたを開けてみれば「コーエン兄弟」に耐性のない人にはちょっと受け入れられないくらいにブラックでユルいサスペンス。音楽はコーエン兄弟の映画には常連のカーター・バーウェルだが、おなじみの彼にすら作品の意図や詳報が通じなかったのか、と思ってしまうくらいに、この映画の「ユルい」部分が表現されていない。作曲家の持ち味である「不安定感」は抜群に表れているが、単体で聞くと、パーカッシヴな曲が多くかなり「まともな」サスペンスの印象。愚かすぎて全く共感できない登場人物達の言動が笑い（というか失笑）につながる瞬間を、完全に音楽に頼らない＝アホらしい話に本格的なBGMをつけよう！、という意図で作られているとしたらスゴい。
