ストーンズのミック・ジャガーがプロデュースで参加していることでも話題の“ゴッドファーザー・オブ・ソウル”　ジェームス・ブラウンの生涯を描いた伝記映画『Get On Up - The James Brown Stroty』（主役のJB役はチャドウィック・ボーズマン）がUSで8月1日に公開されるのに先駆けてリリースされるサウンドトラック・アルバム。収録曲はJBのスタジオ＆ライブ音源が大半で、2曲の未発表ライブ音源も収録。未発表2曲「Please Please Please」「It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World」は、1966年4月23日、フロリダのタンパにあるFort Homer W. Hesterly Armoryで録音されたものだそう。この未発表曲を含む、プロデューサーのThe Underdogsが新たなアレンジを施した5曲（Soundtrack Version）も収録。
