妖しいまでに美しい異常なピアノ音楽
インドの血をひくイギリスの異色作曲家カイホスルー・ソラブジ(1892-1988)。前代未聞の複雑なピアノ技巧と非常識な長さで畏れられる彼の作品のなかでも、とりわけ凄まじい『100の超絶技巧練習曲』は、ピアニストにとって身の毛もよだつ難曲で、全部通すと約7時間かかる超大作。この『100の超絶技巧練習曲』全曲録音という前人未到の難事業に取り組んでいるのがスウェーデンの超絶技巧ピアニスト、フレドリク・ウレーン。
第３弾となる今回のアルバムには第44曲から第62曲を収録。どれも狂気じみた音楽ながら、ピアノならではの妖しい美しさも魅力的です。リゲティ・アルバムやショパン超絶技巧編曲集で評判となったウレーンだけに、こうした作品での信頼度の高さも申し分ありません。（ＨＭＶ）
