「カイルベルトやクナッパーツブッシュのバイロイトライブで史上最高のブリュンヒルデを歌っているヴァルナイの歌を手軽に堪能できる素晴らしい１０枚組です。「アストリッド・ヴァルナイがいれば、どうして舞台の上に樹が必要だろうか」というのは、ヴィーラント・ワーグナーのことばですが、まさにその通り。威厳と柔軟性を兼ね備え、しかも言葉とメロディーのバランスが見事なので、ドラマの進行が実に自然です。ベームやショルティによる指環全曲のステレオ録音においてニルソンではなく、ヴァルナイが起用されていれば、と思うのは私だけでしょうか。 ヴェルディやR．シュトラウスの抜粋も聞きのがせません。なお、1941年12月6日（正に真珠湾攻撃の前日）、メトでジークリンデを歌ってデビューを飾った時の録音もおさめられています。大推薦。
